J.A. Brennan provided landscape architectural services for the Socco, Inc. and Pacific Rim Reload mitigation project in Sumas, Washington. This wetland mitigation project creates the framework for companies to receive mitigation credit for wetland and potential stream enhancement on former agricultural land in the Johnson Creek watershed. J.A. Brennan developed a wetland mitigation plan, detailed mitigation design, and JARPA permit graphics. |

The design lays out a mosaic of wetland plant communities throughout the 29-acre site. The key features of the plan include invasive species control, planting of wetland tree and shrub species, planting of wetland meadow species, a conceptual plan for on-site enhancement of Sumas Creek, and a perimeter trail for public access and education. J.A. Brennan also designed a reed canarygrass control program and completed detailed design for wetland mitigation on 15 acres of the site. The design and management plan take into account the sensitive on-site peat soils and large-scale restoration required within a limited budget. |
