J.J.A. Brennan developed a master plan for the North Arm of Gethsemane Cemetery that maximizes the site¡¯s potential for cemetery use, while also minimizing impacts to the existing on-site wetland complex, which is associated with the salmon-bearing Hylebos Creek. The planned vehicular and pedestrian circulation will be built upon the existing circulation; yet, it is inspired with religious iconography and intriguing gathering spaces. The preserved wetland complex will remain in its natural condition, maintaining water quality and storage functions, while enhancing the peaceful and prayerful setting for cemetery visitors. Storm water will be collected in a series of subdrains and surface channels, treated as necessary, and dispersed into the wetland complex in such a way as to maintain existing flow volumes for each wetland. |
