The Health Village and Wellness Garden at Arcata has been designed as an educational, medicinal and cultural landscape responding to the traditions and rituals of six tribes in Northern California. J.A. Brennan Associates envisions creating a redwood forest surrounding the village on three sides, with areas designed for tribal special events, dances, sweats, teaching and native plant gardening.

The Health Village will offer a courtyard for quiet introspection, a created meandering stream and pond system for storm water treatment and views to the adjacent restored wetlands. Stewardship of the natural environment is also crucial in this project guiding site planning, circulation design, buffers, forest and wetland restoration. The site design addresses the needs of the tribes for physical, social and spiritual healing.
