The pristine sphagnum moss island at Chase Lake was part of the unique urban peat bog environment preserved after the detention capacity of the lake was expanded. Habitats and plantings were designed to encourage a diversity of native species.
Balancing community access and wildlife needs was accomplished with well definedtrail and boardwalk development, interpretivesignage, and parking. Secluded pockets of edge condition were designed as inaccessibleto pedestrians to facilitate habitat establishment, plant succession and water quality goals. | ||
