J..A. Brennan was recently selected to design the Wiyot Tribe landowners' Indian Island Cultural and Environmental Restoration Project. Located in Humbolt County, California, Indian Island is a 60-acre archeological site where over 100 Wiyot people died during a massacre in 1856. The project's focus will be providing tribal members a quiet, clean place to listen to the wind and waves, watch birds, to sing and tell stories, to swim, and to heal. Additional design concepts will include traditional Wiyot ceremonial facilities, along with educational facilities for the greater Wiyot and non-Wiyot communities.
