WWU Bike and Pedestrian Path

At Western Washington University (WWU) a parking lot access road intersected a primary pedestrian and bicycle path and was the site of frequent vehicle and pedestrian/bicycle conflicts. WWU hired J.A. Brennan to reconfigure the intersection to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety.

The design solution realigned the path and access road, added concrete pavers to accent the path in contrast to the asphalt road, relocated stop signs, and integrated bollards and rumble strips to slow bicyclists prior to entering the intersection. The project improves safety by clearly showing that bikes and pedestrians have the right-of-way.

J.A. Brennan developed construction documents and provided construction administration services.
